Hudhud times: The Mamata Banerjee government on Friday passed new legislation in the state assembly to curb mob lynchings in Bengal. The West Bengal (Prevention of Lynching) Bill, 2019 aims to “provide effective protection of the Constitutional rights of vulnerable persons and to prevent the lynching” of innocents.
In order to instil fear in the mind of perpetrators of such crime, the new law has provision of the maximum punishment i.e death sentence. If any act of mob lynching results in the death of a victim, the perpetrator shall be punished with death sentence or rigorous imprisonment for life states the law.
As per the provisions of the new law, the state government will appoint “nodal officers” who shall “monitor and co-ordinate prevention of lynching”. https://www.hudhudtimes.com/
